We were visiting Malibu Wines and needed some food, so we ordered a pizza from Fratelli’s New York Pizza to be delivered to us. We ordered a large margarita pizza, fried zucchini, and a Greek salad, the bill was $52.
The food got there quickly so we were happy about that. Being Italian pizza is such a big part of my life and I’ve yet to find that perfect pizza near me, you know the one, the crust is cooked to perfection in thickness, and the flavor is ever so slightly sweet which allows the crust to almost carmelize on the underside. Let’s talk about the sauce, the sauce is always so simple for pizza, and you typically don’t need a lot of it for a good well-rounded pizza. For the cheese, you want a good mozzarella that when hot is stringy and delicious, although mozzarella is not the cheese that tends to have a lot of flavors, so toppings become very important.
Well…for us, this pizza from Fratelli’s New York Pizza was eh ok, the dough lacked in flavor and tasted like cardboard (for the record I’ve never had cardboard), it’s just that there was no depth to it. The pizza had lots of garlic and way too much sauce. While the photo makes the pizza look cheesy, it really was not cheesy.

The zucchini, well, clearly they are pre-frozen and you will find mostly the crust, not much zucchini. The Greek salad, well this one was weird for me as I order salads from pizza places often, this one was more of a table salad than Greek. It had white onions, black sliced olives, 2 artichoke hearts, sliced cucumbers, sliced mushrooms, sliced green bell peppers, and feta (basically anything you find on pizza). I’ve never had sliced mushrooms on a Greek and there were no tomatoes…I mean the black olives and marinated artichoke hearts are not something I find on Greek salads.
I love pizza and I am always on the watch out for a great New York Pizza place, especially since I am from the east coast but Fratelli’s New York Pizza, for me is not cutting it.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This was not my favorite pizza and honestly I was quite disappointed and for the $52 it was mediocre. The salad was a bust and the fried zucchini were frozen and mostly bread. I think there is still a New York Pizza place that might suit me better.
For a Date: I didn’t eat in Fratelli’s New York Pizza but if you are debating of ordering delivery, you might as well purchase a frozen pizza and fried zucchini and bake it yourself.
